Hockey: Spring Season 2011
Next season of my rec roller hockey league starts the end of this month or beginning of February. In the off-season breaks we try to get in some practices and a number of scrimmages. I've been lucky in that most of the people coming to the scrimmages play in more advanced leagues than myself. This has forced me into a position where I constantly have to work much harder than I would if I was just practicing in B or C league. This week was especially sweet since a lot of the players, past and present, and a coach from the Chico State roller team were playing with us. The game was played at a completely different speed than I was used to. I had to see everything quicker, most faster, play harder and just do everything with a level of intensity that I had never played with before. Not only was it great exercise and a ton of fun, but I'm really stoked to see how my level of play was affected for this coming season. I think I scored three goals and one assist out of all of last season in B league. In C I was able to pull of a bit more, but most of my points came late in the season and during playoffs when I had gotten a lot more comfortable with the sport. The last two days of scrimmage have given me an optimism and confidence about this coming season that has me really excited. Given our current roster, I think I have the potential to be this season's points and goals leader for our team. Considering how competitive we were last season, this could be a key difference that leads to considerable more success for us. Once again, I'm excited.
