Follow Up to Jay Cutler is a Big Baby
I wanted to add some points to support why I think Jay Cutler is a baby and my claim that he implodes when he sees a challenge.
Chicago's 2010 Schedule:
Week 1: vs the Lions (6-10-0) Won by 4 points
Week 2: vs the Cowboys (6-10-0) Won by 1 td over the cowboys who were led by Wade Phillips who earned a record of 1-7 before being canned.
Week 3: vs Green Bay (10-6-0) Eeked out a 3-point win. In all fairness, Jay Cutler didn't really implode this game, but facing one of the better defenses in the NFC and a major division opponent, Cutler threw out his worst passer rating of the season to that point, 82.5, with 1 interception and a completion percent of only 59.3
Week 4: vs Giants (10-6-0) They lost 17-3 in a game in which Cutler only played the first half before being sacked a total of nine times and leaving with a concussion. 1 interception and a passer rating of 40.7. He was held to 42 total yards passing in the first half.
Week 5: vs the Panthers (2-14-0) Chicago beat up on the worst team in 2010, WITHOUT Cutler.
Week 6: vs Seattle (7-9-0) The Bears lost by 3 to the first team in NFL history to make it to the playoffs with a losing record. To their credit, they did manage to earn 20 points despite Cutler's less than stellar stats.
Week 7: vs Washington (6-10-0) Bears lose to a terrible team. Cutler throws 4 picks.
Week 8: Bye
Week 9: vs the Bills (4-12-0) Bears beat another one of the worst teams of 2010, but only by 3 points.
Week 10: vs Minnesota (6-10-0) Bears dominate the frozen train wreck Vikings.
Week 11: vs Miami (7-9-0) Bears win 16-0. In all fairness, the dolphins looked pretty good at the beginning of the season. However, by week 11 they did not. Cutler still threw one pick and completed 64.0% for only 156 yards passing
Week 12: vs the Eagles (10-6-0) Bears win by 5. Cutler has a stellar game. He is also allowed to throw the fewest number of passes in a complete game all season for the Bears. Coincidence? Maybe. However, I'm sure that it was duly noted by the Bears OC that Philadelphia had a top 5 defense overall and the number 3 pass defense in the NFL. They were also 4th WORST in running defense in the NFL and the Bears ran for 131 yards. I would argue the Cutler played very well because they didn't give him the opportunity to feel pressured and then implode.
Week 13: vs Detroit Bears manage to win by 4. Cutler does pretty good. To Cutler's credit, the Lions did start out putting Chicago in a hole that Cutler had to climb out of.
Week 14: vs the Patriots (14-2-0) Patriots dismantle the Bears and Cutler. Cutler has arguably his worst game of the season.
Week 15: vs Vikings the Bears bully their way to another lopsided victory over a clear non-contender for 2010
Week 16: vs the Jets (11-5-0) Honestly the Bears won a pretty good game here. Cutler included.
Week 17: vs Green Bay again. Cutler clearly unraveled fast in this game. My favorite highlight was Cutler throwing a ball away in the red zone for pick number 2.
Jay Cutler finished the regular season 17th in passing yards, 20th in yards per game, 16th in passer rating, and 8th most interception thrown. The interceptions stat is particularly interesting since he threw less passes than 6 of the 7 people worse than him. He had the third worst attempts per interception ratio out of those 8 quarterbacks. Honestly, it's a wonder that the Bears made the playoffs at all, let alone did so well in them considering that they were helmed by a quarterback that was below the 50th percentile in almost every stat imaginable. Think about it, that means there were, at a minimum, 16 quarterbacks better than Cutler this year and only 12 teams even make the playoffs.
Note: Jay Cutler was tied in 13th for TDs thrown with Dave Garrard (JAC) and Ryan Fitzpatrick (BUF) which is almost good enough to make playoffs.
