Shiner Bock was a beer that I bought on whim when I saw it in the store. I was actually looking for Scrimshaw and was having a hard time finding it anywhere in town for some reason. I actually already knew that I wanted to do brats for one of the recipes and figured this would be the one. Since I had never had Shiner Bock before, I sampled it first. It's sweet with a mild hop / nut flavor. I actually really liked it and would definitely recommend it for those who are of an age when it is appropriate to appreciate barley pops.

This really shouldn't count as a recipe. The reason why I say this is because it's WAY too easy and there isn't much to it. It is however, DELICIOUS. So if this is not something that you have tried before, you should.

Ingredients:

1 bottle Shiner Bock
5-6 bratwurst sausages
hoagie rolls

Directions:

Stab each sausage twice on each side with a fork. Place into a zipper plastic bag. Pour the contents of 1 bottle of beer into the bag. Let soak overnight. The next day open up and cook.

Cooking Options:

1. On a BBQ cook the brats, pouring a little bit of the liquid from the bad occasionally over the brats.

2. In a large pan, cook the brats in all of the liquid from the bag.

3. In an oven preheated to 425 degrees F, place the sausages on a rack. Directly below the rack palce a baking pan with the liquid from the pan. Cook for about 25 minutes. Take care not to let the contents of the pan burn as this will create a smelly mess.

Tasting Notes:

I went with option three for cooking because I didn't want to cook them in a pan and I felt that the BBQ would not incorporate as much as the beer as I would have liked. They were delicious. I tried two brats. I tried one brat with fancy mustard and the other with BBQ sauce. I would definitely recommend just mustard on the brat. It compliments the beer and sausage very well. BBQ sauce seemed way too sweet for this meal and took away from the rest of the flavors. I'm not rating this one because the whole thing just seems like cheating, but I will definitely be doing this again as it was quite tasty.
