I wanted to come up with an hors d'oeuvre that would give the taste buds a sweet and sour attack. I decided to go with sour apple slices and a spicy-sweet yogurt topping.
2 granny smith apples (sliced)
1/2 cup plain yogurt
2 tbsp white sugar
1/2 tsp ground chipotle pepper
Combine, yogurt, sugar and chipotle pepper in a bowl and mix thoroughly. For the chipotle, I used can chipotle peppers and then blended them and then added 1/2 tsp to the yogurt mixture. You could substitute ground chipotle powder, and I think the same measurement should work.
Arrange sliced apples on a serving tray. Drop a small dollop on each slice. Serve.
I have yet to decide upon tasting this whether or not I'm happy with it. There are a lot of flavors coming at you all at once. Sometimes complexity is a good thing and that may be the case here. But other times too much is simply too much. I was also a little disappointed that the apples I bought were sweeter than I had hoped, so there wasn't as much sour to balance out the spicy-sweet notes as I had hoped.
I would rate this an easy recipe with the apple slicing being just mildly time consuming.
